Container shipping lines simultaneously announced schedule changes after the devastating earthquake on the border of Turkey and Syria

On the morning of February 6, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake occurred on the border of Türkiye and Syria, causing many Turkish seaports to face challenges. After the earthquake, Limak Port Iskenderun, located in the Mediterranean coastal town of Iskenderun in southern Turkey, was seriously damaged, forcing the port authorities to suspend port operations. Therefore, container shipping lines around the world are taking measures to cope with these difficulties. Given the current situation at Iskenderun, Maersk said it will change the destination for containers arriving in Türkiye or en route. Their current plan is to move containers to nearby operational hubs or keep them at transit ports. Along with that, Cosco Shipping Lines has decided to suspend routes with destination Iskenderun until further notice. CMA CGM also announced measures to deal with difficulties caused by the earthquake. In particular, the French shipping company said it would transfer customers' goods to Mersin port. Additionally, Ocean Network Express (ONE) has also suspended all of its services in Iskenderun, effective immediately. For goods in transit, please contact your local ONE representative for assistance.
